Most of the publicly available petroleum and geothermal data can be accessed through our online systems. These services provide essential reference material for anyone exploring Western Australia for petroleum and geothermal resources.
Petroleum and Geothermal Register (PGR)
The Petroleum and Geothermal Register (PGR) provides information related to petroleum and geothermal titles. You can access information about petroleum and geothermal titles in PGR without registering. PGR’s online lodgement and payments module lets you lodge an application, register and pay title search and annual fees online. You can also submit petroleum data as required under the petroleum acts and regulations on PGR.

Western Australian Petroleum and Geothermal Information Management System (WAPIMS)
WAPIMS is a database of public information generated from activities conducted under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967 (PGERA67) and the Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1982 (PSLA82). These activities include well drilling and completion, geophysical survey acquisition and reprocessing, as well as other activities related to the exploration, appraisal and development of petroleum, geothermal, natural hydrogen and helium resources, and underground storage of CO2. WAPIMS also hosts information about samples held in the Perth and Kalgoorlie Core Libraries.

Interactive geological map – GeoVIEW WA
GeoVIEW.WA is an online mapping tool that lets users view, explore, and map different datasets related to geology and resources. Users can create and print custom geological map by choosing the area and scale, and they can also add other exploration data like mines, mineral deposits, petroleum wells, and active leases.
For more information, please visit GeoVIEW - Search for geoscience and titles information.
Royalties Online
Royalties Online enables mineral and petroleum producers to electronically prepare, lodge and view royalty returns and production reports.
Legislation has been passed to transfer of the mining and petroleum royalty collection and administration functions from the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) to RevenueWA.
From 1 September 2025, RevenueWA will be responsible for royalty collection and administration functions, while DMPE will retain responsibility for royalty policy.

Data reporting requirements
Whenever any petroleum or geothermal exploration or production activity is conducted in Western Australia under any of the three petroleum Acts, there are reporting requirements that need to be met by the registered holder(s).
The statutory requirements for data submission to the Department are outlined in the guidelines for data submission required under Western Australian and Commonwealth Petroleum legislation.
This guide assists the industry in complying with their data submission requirements. It will be modified with changes to the petroleum acts and supporting regulations. In the event of disagreement between this guide and current legislation or directions, the latter will prevail. The two main purposes of reporting are to ensure that exploration or production activities comply with the Acts, and to make this information available to the public to further the exploration for resources in Western Australia.
All information and data submitted to the Department are kept confidential and released in accordance with Part 9 of the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources (Resource Management and Administration) regulations 2015.
