Last updated:

The Design Review eLearning is a practical and comprehensive training suite that supports participants involved in the design review process. It accompanies the Local Government Design Review Manual (the Manual) and Local Government Design Review User Guide to form an integrated set of resources that helps participants navigate the process with consistency and confidence.

Throughout its three role-specific courses, the eLearning translates the Manual’s guidance into practical tools for Panel Members, Panel Chairs and Local Government Officers at every stage in the design review process. Learners are guided through a tailored program that includes:

  • interviews with current and former design review Panel Members and Chairs, planners and coordinating Local Government Officers.
  • real-world built project case studies that demonstrate the far-reaching benefits of an effective design review process.
  • interactive activities that support a deep understanding of the design review process, its positive impact on communities, and the roles and responsibilities that make it possible.
  • links to resources, including the State Design Review Panel Manual, Local Government Design Review Manual, Local Government Design Review User Guide, and a template suite.

Developed by the Government Architect Western Australia with the Western Australian Planning Commission, the eLearning supports effective collaboration and informed decision-making, and builds a shared understanding of the purpose, principles and value of design review.
