The Policy Group provides strategic leadership in developing and shaping whole-of-government policy advice on complex issues, ensuring alignment with government priorities. It is responsible for the effective coordination, oversight, and delivery of the Government’s budget strategy, strategic policies, as well as developing sector-wide approaches to meet government objectives. The Policy Directorate navigates cross-cutting challenges and engages with senior representatives from government, industry, and the community to develop evidence-based policy solutions.
Policy functions
Economic and Environment Policy
The Economic and Environment Policy team leads the development, coordination, and delivery of strategic policy advice to the Premier and Cabinet across a broad range of portfolios that supports economic diversification and sustainable economic growth, environmental resilience, and regional development.
Energy Policy
The Energy Policy team leads the development of strategic, evidence-based policy to support WA’s renewable energy future. With a focus on energy system transformation and decarbonisation the team works across government, industry, and communities to drive the transition to renewable energy and green industry.
Social and Health Policy
The Social and Health Policy Team is responsible for developing and coordinating strategic policy advice. A critical focus for the team over the coming years will be supporting the Government to deliver the sustainability and ongoing reform of critical systems, particularly health, disability, mental health and early childhood.
Community Safety Policy
The Community Safety Policy Team is responsible for developing and coordinating policies that ensure safety, security and wellbeing for all Western Australians. The team works across a diverse portfolio to support and protect the community and strengthen resilience.
