Banned Drinker Areas (s175)
A Banned Drinker Area (BDA) is a designated region where people listed on the Banned Drinkers Register (BDR) are prohibited from buying packaged liquor.
Currently, BDAs include the Pilbara and Kimberley regions, the Goldfields electorate, and the towns of Carnarvon and Gascoyne Junction.
The Governor can declare an area a BDA after receiving a recommendation from the Minister for Racing, Gaming and Liquor. The Minister may only make a BDA recommendation if it is in the public interest and after consulting:
- the Commissioner of Police
- local governments that are part of the proposed BDA
- any other person the Minister considers appropriate.
