The key objectives of the PGSSC are to:
- raise community awareness of the risks and impact of gambling harm;
- facilitate and promote the free and confidential support services available for people impacted by gambling harm.
The PGSSC consists of representatives from:
- Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS)
- Department of Communities
- Mental Health Commission
- Racing and Wagering Western Australia
- Lotteries Commission, trading as Lotterywest
- Crown Perth
The PGSSC receives voluntary financial contributions from the industry members of the PGSSC.
LGIRS provides in-kind support to the PGSSC through executive services and financial administration, as well as policy and research support.
Functions
The PGSSC contributes to the reduction and minimisation of gambling harm in Western Australia through:
- Support services — facilitating and promoting the free and confidential support services available for people affected by gambling harm.
These services include a 24-hour confidential telephone helpline, a face-to-face counselling service and the national online counselling service, Gambling Help Online. - Education — raising awareness of gambling harm through campaigns and other initiatives, including Gambling Harm Awareness Week.
- Research — supporting WA-based research to assist the development and implementation of evidence-based strategies, policies and programs to reduce and minimise gambling harm in Western Australia.
