Shire of Northam, Wheatbelt

In the first trial of its kind for WA, the Road Safety Commission partnered with the Shire of Northam to explore and invest in near miss camera technology.

The Shire of Northam trialled the non-enforcement cameras at the intersection of Fitzgerald and Gairdner streets for a three-month period between June and August 2024.

The trial was then extended with the cameras installed at the intersection of Uralia Terrace and Lance Street from September to December 2024, shifting focus from car-on-car interactions to cars and pedestrians.

The trial was funded by the Road Safety Commission from the Road Trauma Trust Account.

More information about the trial in Northam can be found on the Shire of Northam’s website.

City of Vincent, Perth

A near miss camera has been installed at the intersections of Fitzgerald and Angove streets in North Perth for a three-month trial.

The camera was installed on 10 February 2025 and will help the City of Vincent assess safety at the intersection. The aim is to collect data for better road planning without enforcement or fines.

The City of Vincent is the first local government in the Perth metropolitan area to take part in the trial.

More information can be found on the City of Vincent website.

Shire of Lake Grace, Wheatbelt

On 18 June 2025, a near miss camera was installed at the intersection of Stubbs Street and South Road in Lake Grace for a two-month trial.

The data collected will help the Shire of Lake Grace to understand road usage patterns and identify areas where safety improvements may be required.

The Shire of Lake Grace is the second local government in the Wheatbelt to participate in the trial.
