Regional seatbelt radio campaign

This campaign is a series of radio advertisements for Aboriginal people in Western Australia, available in several languages.

In 2021 the National Aboriginal Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO), in a submission to the Joint Select Committee on Road Safety, found that Aboriginal people are 2.7 times more likely to die and 1.4 times more likely to suffer serious injury in vehicle crashes than other Australians.

With many Aboriginal communities located regionally in the Kimberley, Pilbara and Goldfields, it is concerning that between 2018 and 2022, 25% of motor vehicle occupants killed or seriously injured in these regions were not wearing a seatbelt.

This is why the Road Safety Commission has developed a series of radio advertisements voiced in the following languages:

  • Kimberley Kriol
  • Martu (Western Desert Region)
  • Ngaanyatjarra
  • Plain English
  • Yindjibarndi

These will be aired on local radio stations in the Kimberley, Pilbara and Goldfields throughout December.  They are available to be listened to and downloaded below.
