This week Communities announced Bethanie Housing Limited (Bethanie) as the preferred proponent to develop and operate a new 90-dwelling community housing development in Mount Lawley.

Following selection as the preferred proponent, Communities and Bethanie Housing Limited have entered into an Early Works Agreement to facilitate further development of the project's design and other steps required to bring it to life.

The proposed three-storey development on the corner of East Parade and Guildford Road, Mount Lawley, which received a major boost in the 2024-25 State Budget, will offer 90 community housing dwellings located close to the CBD and local amenities.

Manager Business Development Beth Ferialdi said that the site offered a prime opportunity to create much needed homes for vulnerable Western Australians, ensuring them access to public transport, community services, and healthcare.

"The development responds to the needs of vulnerable seniors who want to age in the communities they know, where they feel valued, and connected to families and friends.

"The well-located site will create accessible and affordable housing within walking distance to shopping and recreational areas," she said.

The development will include a mix of one and two-bedroom community housing apartments built to silver Liveable Homes standards.

As the preferred proponent, Bethanie Housing Limited will partner with the State Government, through the Department of Communities, throughout the project to ensure a high-quality development that integrates with the neighbourhood. Upon completion, the provider will operate the complex.

Bethanie Housing Limited is a registered community housing provider managing over 500 community housing properties for Western Australians in the Perth and the South-West.

The 11,000 square metre development site was identified as part of the Housing Diversity Pipeline, which was launched to encourage new developments on government-owned land located in proximity to major transport corridors, delivering greater housing choice for Western Australians.

A development application is expected to be lodged in early 2025 by Bethanie Housing Limited.
