Boronia Pre-release Centre for Women is throwing open its door to the public for a special cause.
This year’s Gala Day also marks a 20-year milestone for the successful fundraising event.
Stalls will be selling materials made by prisoners from across WA.
Wooden pallets have been stripped down and turned into things like furniture, dog beds, kennels, hose holders, children’s toys and signs.
The Gala Day has raised more than $380,000 for charities.
This year’s beneficiary is the Women and Infants Research Foundation which helps volunteers at King Edward Memorial Hospital provide essential goods to women in crisis.
“The day is a great chance for the public to see the transformative work that’s being done at Boronia,” said Sharon Higgs, the Centre’s Acting Superintendent.
“Being able to increase community awareness about the vital work being done is really important.”
Dozens of art works created by prisoners from across WA will be auctioned. All the works have been specially framed by Boronia residents.
Money is also raised through the sale of native plants, succulents, ornamentals, fruit trees and ground covers as well as an array of cakes, pastries and bread baked in the Centre’s kitchen.
The Gala Day on 1 November runs from 10am until 2pm, with parking across the road at Curtin University.
