Commissioner Royce has taken up the role with immediate effect.

Before joining the Department he was an Assistant Commissioner with the Western Australia Police Force, where he served for nearly 30 years.

Director General Dr Adam Tomison said Commissioner Royce had an extensive and impressive policing career, serving across metropolitan districts, specialist units and in senior leadership roles.

"His appointment will allow me and the senior executive team to undertake a new strategic direction in managing Corrective Services," Dr Tomison said.

Commissioner Royce said his experience of leadership in a large organisation in a complex environment had prepared him for this role.

"I want to ensure that we manage top class facilities, strongly support staff and ensure the welfare of people in our care so they can successfully reintegrate back into the community," he said.

Dr Tomison said the Corrective Services directorate of Women and Young People would be split into two directorates.

Deputy Commissioner Christine Ginbey will take responsibility for the Women’s Estate and lead Young People until a new Deputy Commissioner is appointed.

Former Commissioner Mike Reynolds will move into a different role at the Department undertaking a range of strategic projects.

"I wish to thank Mike for his service as Commissioner and I look forward to continuing working with him in his new role," Dr Tomison said.
