A new campaign is underway to bring greater public awareness to forced adoption.
Under past forced adoption policies and practices, unmarried women were channelled into an adoption process, often early in their pregnancies, and sometimes without their knowledge.
These past policies and practices have resulted in life-long trauma, enduring grief and suffering to adopted people, mothers, fathers and their extended families.
This suffering is often exacerbated by the lack of community understanding and awareness of forced adoption.
The campaign, which launched this week, draws attention to the history of forced adoption and highlights the impacts it’s had and continues to have through the voices of those with lived and living experience.
A campaign webpage provides links to support services and additional information on how service providers can help.
The webpage also provides downloadable campaign resources so that other organisations can help promote the campaign and ensure people in our community are better supported.
