Volunteers from Cadets WA’s Armadale Police Rangers program were acknowledged and celebrated in an award ceremony on Friday 24 October 2025 at Cecil Andrews College.
The event highlighted the service of four indispensable instructors, with two Certificates of Recognition were awarded for five years of service to Clare Nebe and Eriq Yates by Minister for Youth, Hon Hannah Beazley MLA.
Additionally, 20-year long service medals were presented to Unit Leader Ben Boekholt and Chief Instructor Rob Manderson by the Minister for Police, Hon Reece Whitby MLA and Police Commissioner, Col Blanch respectively.
Police Rangers are one of eight cadet streams funded and administered by Department of Communities and currently involves over 400 young people and nearly 40 instructors across 14 units. The Cadets WA program started in 1996 and the Armadale unit commenced well before that, initially running out of the local Police and Community Youth Centre (PCYC) before moving to Cecil Andrews College in 2015.
The unit was also presented with a plaque from Principal Melissa Kettle, recognising 10 years of operation at the school, accepted by Unit Leader Ben Boekholt.
The program offers young people aged 12 to 17 the opportunity to learn valuable life skills through a range of activities, while building positive relationships between young people and police.
Relationship and Contract Officer for Cadets WA, Lincoln George said “It’s a true testament to the success of these cadet programs that long-serving volunteers, although are not in it for the accolades, are recognised for their ongoing commitment and passion to see the young people grow and develop into community minded and better prepared young adults.”
