Changes to Murdoch COVID-19 PCR Testing Clinic

News story
The Murdoch public COVID-19 Testing Clinic will close this week as demand for PCR testing continues to decline and more free RATS are available through the Western Australian Free RAT program.

The Murdoch COVID-19 testing clinic will close at 1pm on Friday 3rd March due to the decline in demand for PCR testing and the increased availability of free RATs through the WA Free RAT Program.

The Murdoch clinic opened in March 2022 and staff at the PCR testing facility have played a vital role in protecting the WA community. In the 12 months since it has been operating, staff at the Murdoch clinic have collected 106,641 samples.

As PCR testing numbers continue to fall and many Western Australians choose the preferred testing option of RATs, dedicated PCR testing sites are no longer necessary.

Western Australians seeking a PCR test can still get a referral from their GP to attend a private pathology collection centre.

Free RATs are also available for collection at selected pop-up locations (including shopping centres, train stations and major events), regional health facilities and via the electorate offices of  Members of Parliament. RATs are a convenient way to detect and limit the spread of COVID-19, and the WA Government continues to provide free RATs to protect the community and help ease cost of living pressures. More than 12,113,098 RATs have been distributed to the WA community through pop-up locations.

Western Australians are encouraged to use a RAT if you have COVID-like symptoms, and if positive, register the result online, or request a GP referral for a PCR test at a pathology collection centre.
