As part of the WA Government’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people, Communities has launched a social media campaign and a suite of resources to expand community awareness of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, directing new audiences to the Child Safe Organisations Knowledge Hub.

The National Principles provide a framework to guide organisations in developing child safe cultures and practices, including the ability to identify risks and take agreed actions to prevent, respond to and report child abuse.

This year’s Children’s Week Campaign has been developed to support families, parents and carers to know what to look for in child safe organisations where children and young people’s safety is prioritised.

The WA Government has committed to introducing a Child Safe Standards Scheme, with Ombudsman WA leading its design. The Scheme aims to strengthen child safety across Western Australia by helping organisations create environments where children are safe, respected and protected from harm.

The Scheme will build on the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and support organisations to strengthen child-safe cultures, leadership and everyday practices. Ombudsman WA is designing a practical Scheme that reflects Western Australia’s diverse communities, and the different stages organisations are at in their child safety journey.

Implementing the National Principles in collaboration with children, young people and families of all backgrounds is being made easier than ever with the practical resources accessible from the Child Safe Organisations Knowledge Hub.

To find out more, including what to look for and ask of organisations who prioritise child safety, access the Knowledge Hub for more information.

This Children’s Week, we’re committed to supporting WA families to understand what they can expect from child safe organisations.

Help us create safer WA communities for our children and young people.
