Service provider Cuddles Early Learning and Childcare Byford failed to follow their policies and procedures regarding sun and heat protection which resulted in significant harm to a child in their care.

Service Providers must ensure all educators receive a comprehensive induction when they commence work at a service. A regular or seasonal reminder about the Sun Safety policy should be given to all educators to ensure they understand and know how to implement the Sun Safety policy.

Approved Providers may also consider clearly visible signage or other visual reminders about the Sun Safety policy near where the outdoor area is accessed, to alert staff to the policy’s requirements.
