The State Government has announced more than $3.6 million in payments to ease cost of living pressures on foster carers, family carers, special guardian carers and grandparent carers.

From late January 2024, eligible carers will receive one-off cost of living payments of $500 for the first child in their care, and $250 for each additional child in their household.

Eligible carers that have previously had children placed with them at any time during the 2023 calendar year (but currently have no children in their care) will also receive a one-off $500 payment.

The cost of living payments will reduce the financial strain on carers at a time of need, particularly with the added pressure of return to school costs.

Approximately 5,600 Western Australian households who are caring for over 7,700 children will benefit from these payments.
