Grant funding of $124,000 is being made available to eligible organisations across Western Australia to reduce ageism towards older Aboriginal people.

Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and Aboriginal organisations can apply for grants of up to $10,000 each. Depending on the project, an additional amount of up to $5,000 can also be applied for.

Two funding streams are available for initiatives that:

  • Develop resources that promote respectful relationships towards older Aboriginal people and that emphasise cultural strengths. This can include promoting local, regional, or statewide service providers and resources that assist in financial elder abuse.
  • Organise intergenerational cultural events and trips on Country to learn Lore and to encourage and enhance intergenerational relationships and respect for older Aboriginal people and Elders as custodians of culture.

The grant enables ACCOs and Aboriginal organisations to develop projects that consider the specific needs of the local community.

The grants will be administered by the Council of Aboriginal Services WA. More information can be found our Challenge Your Bias – reducing ageism webpage.
