"Impairment discrimination is consistently the most complained about ground under the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, so International Day of People with Disability is a day we observe each year at the Commission," WA Equal Opportunity Commissioner Dr John Byrne said.

Last financial year 119 impairment discrimination complaints were finalised at the Commission, which is 25.4 percent of all complaints finalised in that year.

"Impairment discrimination can be physical, mental or emotional and it can be temporary or permanent so a significant proportion of the WA community may be susceptible to impairment discrimination," Dr Byrne said.

The stall was the fourth in the Stall in the Mall series the Commission has run this year.

"The Commission considers it a valuable way of providing outreach to people who might not necessarily know anything about the Equal Opportunity Act or the work of the Commission," Dr Byrne said.
