Leon McIvor announced as new Director General, Department of Housing and Works

The Premier of Western Australia, the Hon Roger Cook has announced the appointment of Leon McIvor as Director General of the new Department of Housing and Works, commencing 1 July 2025.

Leon McIvor has been appointed Director General of Department of Housing and Works.

Currently the Deputy Director General – Housing and Homelessness at the Department of Communities, Leon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role including delivering more than 3,000 new social homes since 2021–2022, which makes him well-placed to lead the new Department.

As Director General, Leon will be responsible for guiding the new Department of Housing and Works from its inception on 1 July and strengthening its ability to deliver services to the WA community.

We extend our sincere congratulations to Leon on this significant appointment and look forward to the energy, insight and leadership he will bring to this new role.

Leon is one of five new senior appointments announced by the Premier, including Joann Wilkie who will commence in the role of Under Treasurer from 4 August 2025.
