The Ngaanyatjarra Services Aboriginal Corporation (NSAC) has been awarded a Head Maintenance Contract to provide services on behalf of the Department of Communities.

The new model aims to improve the way maintenance services are delivered to meet specific needs within NG Lands. An Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO), NSAC’s local presence and close ties to communities will enable a timely and cost-effective response, with consideration to cultural needs.

The contract will have an estimated value of up $32 million, which would make it the third largest contract signed with an Aboriginal organisation since the McGowan Government introduced its Aboriginal Procurement Policy in 2018.

The State Government has committed to building a strong ACCO sector under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and ensuring measures are in place to encourage strong economic participation and development for people and their communities.

Communities has been working closely with the NSAC to co-design the new service delivery model to meet specific needs in the NG Lands.

Ngaanyatjarra Council Group Deputy Chairman Preston Thomas Snr said the newly awarded head maintenance contract was a milestone on the long road to sustainable public housing in remote Aboriginal communities.

“I would like to thank the Minister for Housing, and Communities staff and Director General for working collaboratively with our team at Ngaanyatjarra Council Group to develop a remote-based service delivery model,” he said.

“The journey to this point has been long, but we believe the future is bright.”

Housing maintenance on the NG Lands has been provided by Lake Maintenance WA since 2015 under a contract with Communities. Lake Maintenance continues to undertake maintenance in the Goldfields, Wheatbelt, and East West Kimberley regions.

Communities project manager Jade Cass, NSAC adviser Fred Chaney AO, Communities Director General Mike Rowe, Communities Assistant Director General Cheryl Smith, NSAC Director Preston Thomas, NSAC Secretary Gerard Coffey and NSAC General Manager Housing Thomas Williams celebrate the signing of the new Head Maintenance Contract.
