The Department of Communities supports an independent group called the Care Plan Review Panel (the Panel) to ensure children in care have a say on decisions affecting their care.

Several new members were welcomed to the group earlier this year (pictured), however additional members are also needed, including those with legal qualifications and Aboriginal representatives.

As a panel member, you will need a range of skills, including experience in child and family welfare and a good understanding of current trends and issues impacting children and families.

You don’t need to live in Perth and people from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply, particularly Aboriginal people to ensure children in care feel culturally safe.

Panel members with legal expertise are required to fulfill the Panel Chair and Deputy roles.

Former Panel Chair Lisa Young (front centre), who’s term has expired, said being part of the Panel was a rewarding experience and she hoped to see greater diversity in gender and culture.

“Communication is so important – these children need all of the adults, the carers, the district and Department involved in making good decisions.”

Membership is for three years, with renumeration set by the Public Sector Commission.

Applications close at 4pm on Monday 16 June 2025.
