Bunbury residents affected by the severe weather event in early May continue to receive assistance from the Department of Communities’ Emergency Relief and Support.

Communities recently joined the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and City of Bunbury for a door-knock operation through the affected suburbs of Withers, South Bunbury and College Grove.

Communities’ Purple Shirts team talked to residents about the available support, including mental health services and financial assistance to manage living costs while the community rebuilds.

Since the damaging storm and tornado swept through the area, Communities has assisted impacted residents with temporary accommodation and responded to calls for information through the Disaster Response Hotline.

As part of the initial response by the Purple Shirt team, Foodbank answered our call for help, providing community food hampers at short notice. Foodbank continues to partner with Communities to address the ongoing need food relief.

The Purple Shirts team remains on the ground in Bunbury and surrounding areas, engaging with residents and offering support from the City of Bunbury’s Recovery Hubs.

DFES has also appointed a Recovery Support Manager to work alongside Communities and support the City of Bunbury in the recovery process.
