The most popular baby names in Western Australia for 2025 were Noah and Isla.
The year prior (2024) produced a double tie in most popular girls and boys names, with Noah and Oliver and Isla and Charlotte claiming equal top spot.
Oliver and Charlotte remained popular in 2025, occupying second position.
Newcomers to the State’s top ten compared to the year before, were the girls’ names Grace, Hazel and Sophia and William for boys.

There were 33,232 births registered in WA in 2025, 88 per cent of which were received via the Registry’s online Birth Registration Portal.
Births Deaths and Marriages Acting Registrar Heath Bennett said choosing a baby name was a big decision for parents and the Registry’s website reveals favourites dating back close to 100 years, including a breakdown for regional areas, where the data often reflects different trends.
“For instance, in 2025 in the Goldfields-Esperance region, the boys names Billy and Levi tied at number one,” Mr Bennett said.
“Billie, spelled with an i-e, and Maggie tied in second position, behind Isla at number one, in the Kimberley/Pilbara/Gascoyne. There, Jack was the most popular boys name.”
“There was a three-way tie for most popular girls’ name in the Wheatbelt/Midwest where Grace, Isla and Remi occupied equal number one and Oliver topped boys’ name in Peel,” Mr Bennett said.
Twenty years ago, the names Ella and Jack topped WA’s baby names, while 50 years back, then State’s most popular names were Michelle and Michael.
“2025 favourites Isla and Noah still have a long way to go to catch up with Margaret and John, WA’s most popular names on record,” Mr Bennett said.
“Margaret was the number one girls name for 22 consecutive years from 1930, when RBDM published records begin,” he said.
“John was most popular boys name for 21 consecutive years from 1930 and held a place in the top 10 for 42 years in a row.”
Families have 60 days from the birth of a child to lodge registration with the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, either via a paper form or online.
