Planning Minister Rita Saffioti has today announced Anthony Kannis will be appointed Director General of the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.
Anthony has more than four decades of experience in the public sector and has played a key role in a number of agencies including the WA Treasury, WA Police and most recently as the Managing Director of METRONET.
He was appointed Project Director (now Program Director) of METRONET in 2017, and since that time has amassed multiple achievements including early release of remaining METRONET planning projects to market to assist with economic stimulation during COVID-19, creating a strong pipeline of work and jobs for WA and championing the METRONET Aboriginal Engagement Strategy, Gnarla Biddi.
In his time at WA Treasury, Anthony provided strategic advice to Government on infrastructure prioritisation and investment, in addition to the general resourcing requirements of public sector agencies.
It was also confirmed today that responsibility for the State Government’s Market-led Proposals process will be transferred from the Department of Finance to our Department effective 1 March 2022.
Market-led Proposals were introduced in 2019 inviting industry to present a commercial proposition either to build and/or finance infrastructure, provide goods or services or purchase a Government owned asset.
Over the coming weeks, the Department will work with colleagues from the Department of Finance to organise the necessary arrangements for the transfer. In the meantime, enquiries should continue to be directed to the Department of Finance via email at marketledproposals@finance.wa.gov.au.
