The new Pilbara Aboriginal Home Ownership Program will provide 28 affordable homes (with the option to purchase) to local employed Aboriginal people and their families – and will provide these households with five years of culturally secure services to achieve their own goals in employment, education, and financial wellbeing, including home ownership.

To ensure the program best meets the needs of local Aboriginal people, the Department of Communities will be engaging with Aboriginal organisations and entities in the Pilbara to develop the program.

Following this co-design process, Aboriginal organisations will be invited to express their interest in the program to either:

  • provide land for the construction of new homes
  • construct homes
  • deliver engagement and/or tenancy and property management services.

The $30.6 million program – made possible through investment by the North-West Aboriginal Housing Fund – is unique in that it will be owned and operated by Aboriginal organisations as asset owners, builders and service providers.

The program aims to build the capacity of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and provide Aboriginal people in the North-West with access to affordable housing solutions and wraparound supports.
