Our Homelessness team has reached an important milestone today with the announcement of a Safe Night Space for Rockingham, a practical and safe response for people sleeping rough in Perth’s southern suburbs.
Operating seven nights a week, the Safe Night Space will provide people sleeping rough or experiencing homelessness in Rockingham with safe overnight shelter and support to secure stable accommodation and improve long-term outcomes.
The service will operate using a low-barrier, trauma-informed approach designed to engage people who may be unable to access or sustain traditional accommodation options.
Up to 30 people can access safe overnight shelter, meals, shower and laundry facilities, and case management support connecting them with health, housing and other essential services.
The Safe Night Space is being delivered by Rockingham-based provider The CREW, which brings extensive experience supporting vulnerable Western Australians and strong local connections.
The service complements existing homelessness responses in Rockingham, delivering a practical, person-centred response in partnership with St Pat’s, Centrecare, i24s Aboriginal Corporation, Homeless Healthcare, WA Police, the City of Rockingham and the Department of Communities.
As homelessness encampments become more prevalent across Perth and regional WA, our Homelessness team continues to play a vital role in bringing partners together and coordinating practical responses, and I thank them for the difference they make every day.
This initiative reflects the dedication, expertise and commitment of government agencies, service providers and local governments working together to support vulnerable people in our community and create lasting change.
