Deputy Director General Business Services Graeme Jones is a passionate individual who thrives on building a strong and professional team that makes a difference.
As a senior Executive with more than 30 years’ experience leading teams and functioning in large and complex environments, Graeme’s career spans many sectors of Government. That wealth of experience is valuable as Graeme oversees Business Services involvement in most of the agency’s corporate functions including Finance, Facilities Management, Information Services, the Data Office and Emergency Relief and Support.
Throughout his career, Graeme has enjoyed working with amazing teams and seeing the staff in those teams grow and develop.
"Often I have had previous staff members reach out to me many years later and thank me for the opportunity to work on a specific project or that one piece of advice that left a lasting impression – that is truly rewarding that I have been able to support someone on their individual career journey," he says.
Graeme likes to see achievements transform into success for all.
"I like to focus on achieving outcomes, and I admit to enjoying multiple tasks and supporting the agency and my teams deliver on those tasks and put success in motion," he explains.
“I value the complexity of roles that are multifaceted and challenging to me, like Business Services, with its various units and functional responsibilities that make my role more interesting as I have an opportunity to gain experience in a new environment that allows me to grow and develop."
"My current priorities are to support Communities to become more financially sustainable within its approved Treasury budget parameters and to develop a strategic ICT investment plan to support Communities in its current capacity and its future growth over the next 10 years."
Away from his professional responsibilities, Graeme enjoys downtime with family and friends – especially if it involves movies or a BBQ. He is also an avid traveller and average golfer. His proudest achievement is his children and watching them grow and develop. His youngest son is currently in his final year of school, year 12, and he is very much looking forward to his graduation.
"I enjoy my role because the expectations and responsibilities of Deputy Director General Business Services closely align with my previous portfolios in education and health and my values.
"It’s rewarding to be able to make a difference to vulnerable community members in Western Australia."
