The Western Australian Government is seeking feedback from service providers and community organisations to help shape the design and rollout of Thriving Kids – focused on additional supports for children aged 0-8 years (inclusive) with developmental delay and/or autism with low to moderate support needs.
It will also equip parents, carers and family with the information, skills and guidance they need to better understand and nurture their child’s development.
This comes ahead of changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). From 1 January 2028, some children who may have previously entered the NDIS will instead be supported through Thriving Kids, with a range of services available to meet families’ needs.
Targeted engagement was carried out earlier this year to inform what Thriving Kids should look like in WA, ensuring children can access the right supports early and in ways that work for each family.
These sessions provided valuable insights from children, families, Aboriginal community members, regional community members, and disability representative and advocacy organisations
The WA Government, through the Department of Communities, is now moving into the next stage of consultation for Thriving Kids.
Service providers and relevant organisations are invited to share their insights and experience by completing an online survey.
This aims to build a clearer picture of early intervention services across WA, including where services are delivered, how families are reached in metropolitan, regional and remote areas, and opportunities for innovative approaches.
The survey will remain open until 5pm on Monday 11 May.
Feedback received will help inform the development of foundational supports for children and families in WA.
