The Western Australian Office of Crime Statistics and Research’s (WACSAR) Criminal Justice Research Grant provides $300,000 annually to develop practical solutions to criminal justice challenges.

The grants offer top-up academic funding for students enrolled in honours and higher-degree research at a WA university.

Collaborative grants are also on offer for two or more partners, including universities, institutions, not-for-profits and government agencies, working together on a research project.

A third-tier funds one-off requests for a specific project.

Department of Justice Director General Kylie Maj said the research creates new valuable resources to serve criminal justice.

“This research will provide the most innovative tools, developed using the best available data, to refine the criminal justice system,” she said.

WACSAR Acting Executive Director Mr Gary Wilmot said the grants, which were launched in 2021, are building future capacity by investing in vital criminology research.

“Enlisting the State’s academic and research communities will help better identify evolving criminal justice issues – and develop the best-informed methods to manage them,” he said.

The current round of funding round has been extended and now closes at 12.00 pm, Friday 18 October 2024.

Applications can be lodged, and selection criteria found, on the Criminal Justice Research Grant webpage.
