More than 440 climate adaptation experts, researchers, policymakers and industry leaders gathered in Perth from 23–25 July for Climate Adaptation 2025—Australia’s premier national conference on climate adaptation, impact and resilience.

Held in Western Australia (WA) for the first time, the biennial conference was hosted by the National Environmental Science Program’s Climate Systems Hub and supported by the Western Australian Government as a major sponsor.

The event brought together delegates from 226 organisations across all levels of government, academia, industry and the community sector, with 40 per cent of attendees based in WA—highlighting the State’s growing leadership in climate resilience.

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Water, Climate Resilience and the South West, Hon Don Punch MLA, delivered the opening plenary, outlining the State Government’s commitment to building climate resilience through the WA Climate Adaptation Strategy, launched in 2023 and backed by nearly $40 million over four years.

“The Strategy is already delivering results, from high-resolution climate projections to sector-specific adaptation plans and a Climate Risk Framework to guide public sector decision-making,” Minister Punch said.

The conference featured a diverse program of plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops, an AdaptFest film festival, poster displays, and an innovation theatre and exhibition, with a strong focus on collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation, Amber-Jade Sanderson, said the conference was an important opportunity to learn from leading researchers and practitioners.

“The Cook Government is committed to supporting the clean energy transition and helping hard-to-abate sectors decarbonise, while also assisting our international trading partners to meet their climate goals,” Minister Sanderson said.

Climate Adaptation 2025 showcased the strength of WA’s partnerships across sectors and reaffirmed the State’s commitment to a climate-resilient future.
