Western Australia’s youth perspective was represented on the national stage at the National Youth Forum in Canberra, with two members of the Ministerial Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) attending the event.
MYAC representatives Om Sharma and Nandini Gera joined young people from across the country to take part in discussions on key national priorities, including the cost of living, climate change and mental health. The forum provided participants with a direct opportunity to share ideas and proposed solutions with federal government departments and agencies.
Throughout the day, attendees worked in policy-focused streams led by different federal departments, responding to real-world challenges and developing initiatives for presentation to senior government officials. The format aimed to strengthen youth input into policy development while building understanding of how government decision-making processes operate.
MYAC is a consultative advisory body consisting of up to 12 diverse young Western Australians aged 15 to 25. The council works with the Minister for Youth and public sector officials to provide advice on issues impacting young people across Western Australia.
Participation in forums such as the National Youth Forum supports MYAC’s ongoing role in amplifying youth voices and ensuring Western Australian perspectives contribute to conversations shaping youth policy at both state and national levels.
