Western Australia’s first LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Strategy was launched at Pridefest Fairday on Sunday 23 November 2025, following an extensive public consultation period.

The ten-year strategy and first five-year action plan outlines key priority areas to build a safer more inclusive WA for LGBTIQA+ communities.

The Strategy identifies four priority areas important to LGBTIQA+ people that will be the focus of change efforts and actions:

  • Belonging, connection and visibility
  • Safety, equity and wellbeing
  • Systems, services and data
  • Leadership, education and awareness.

As part of the actions, the State Government has announced the opening of a new grants program totalling $252,000 to support pilots, projects and initiatives that align with the priorities of the Strategy.

The LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Grants Program offers two funding streams with grants up to $10,000 for eligible organisations and local governments and up to $25,000 available for eligible community partnership arrangements.

The Strategy was developed through extensive consultation with LGBTIQA+ individuals, communities and the Strategy Reference Group to ensure it reflects the lived experiences of people who are LGBTIQA+ and responds to their diverse needs.

2,400 responses helped shape the Strategy, with consultation taking place both online and in person from the Kimberley to the Great Southern.

The Hon. Hannah Beazley MLA led the delivery of the Strategy, with Department of Communities leading it’s development. The Strategy was informed by the expertise of the LGBTIQA+ Strategy Reference Group; co-chaired by the inaugural LGBTIQA+ peak body, Rainbow Futures WA.

Applications for the LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Grants Program are now open until 3pm Friday 13 February 2026.
