Western Australia’s new hard border is now in effect

Western Australia’s new hard border is now in place to allow for safe, compassionate travel into WA.

Western Australia’s new hard border is now in place as part of WA’s Safe Transition Plan.

The new hard border setting allows for safe, compassionate travel into WA and the return of legitimate Western Australians.

It’s important to note, approved travellers arriving at Perth Airport can only travel for 600 kilometres to their self-quarantine address.

You must complete your quarantine period before you can travel to a regional area of WA by air or by road beyond 600 kilometres.

Requirements for approved interstate travellers

There are a few requirements for approved travellers to enter WA, including:

  • having an approved G2G Pass
  • providing proof of being triple dose vaccinated against COVID-19, if eligible (or double dose vaccinated if not eligible for a third dose)
  • providing proof of a negative Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) or PCR test within 24 hours before departure
  • undertaking 14 days of self-quarantine at a suitable premises, (7 days for a health worker), with anyone else residing in the household also required to self-quarantine for 14 days
  • receiving a PCR test within 48 hours of arrival and on day 12 of self-quarantine, (day 6 for health workers), with any other household members also required to do a PCR test on the traveller’s day 12
  • using the G2G Now app and in-person checks by WA Police as required while in self-quarantine. Anyone else in the same household is required to register themselves as a household contact on the G2G Hub website, and also download and use G2G Now.

Requirements for direct international travellers

There are a few requirements for direct international travellers to enter WA, including:

  • having an approved G2G Pass
  • undertaking 14 days of mandatory quarantine including, seven days in hotel quarantine and seven days of self-quarantine at suitable premises, if eligible. If the traveller is eligible to leave hotel quarantine after 7 days and goes into a suitable premises, any other household members are also required to quarantine for the remainder of the traveller’s quarantine period.
  • presenting for a PCR test on days one, six, nine and 12 while in quarantine, with any other household members also required to present for a PCR test on the traveller’s day 12
  • using the G2G Now app and in-person checks by WA Police as required if in self-quarantine. Anyone else in the same household is required to register themselves as a household contact on the G2G Hub website, and also download and use G2G Now.

Face masks are required to be worn on aircraft and at airports in WA, unless the traveller is aged under 12.
