On Friday 20 March 2020, the Attorney General released a media statement announcing that law firms who provide legal services must comply with the WA Pro Bono Model as of 1 July 2020. The Pro Bono Model will apply to Western Australian government agencies.

The State Solicitor's Office is consulting with Pro Bono Coordinators in law firms, the Aboriginal Legal Service, Law Access and the Community Legal Centres Association on developing a standardised approach to assess pro bono work.

We are collaborating with the Department of Finance as to how the Model can be most efficiently incorporated into contracts with legal firms and assessing different options. We are also examining how law firms would report on their pro bono commitments.
