‘Who can say OK in WA?' was developed in consultation with community service organisations and Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations, to support decision-making about children in care, where the child's voice is at the centre, and the child's best interests are always paramount.
Foster and family carers are frequently presented with everyday decisions that all families make about children and young people.
It is important that carers feel confident about which decisions they can make, so that childhood experiences for children in care are as normalised as possible.
'Who can say OK in WA?' is a resource for foster and family carers, that provides general guidance as to who can make everyday decisions about a child or young person in care.
Carers of children and teens must make choices when it comes to everyday activities such as sleepovers, decisions around technology and social media, getting a job or sitting their driving test, and these are all covered in the guide.
Who can say OK in WA?' was launched today during a Foster Carers Week function hosted by the Foster Care Association of Western Australia.
