Mine operators can register multiple items of plant at a time if eligible, in place of the Registration of an item of plant process.
Who can apply to register multiple items of plant?
In addition to the item of plant registration requirements, applications for the multiple registrations of an item of plant on a mine site process must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant must be a mine operator (as defined in regulation 5C Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulation 2022) and registered in SRS as a mine operator;
- The items of plant must be exclusively for use on a mine site;
- The items of plant must be pressure vessels or boilers;
- All items of plant on the Form 204 must be located on the same mine site; and
- 10 or more items of plant must be registered at a time.
If you are not eligible to apply to register your plant using the multiple registrations of an item of plant on a mine site process, you may still register your items of plant using the registration of an item of plant application process.
How to apply
- Collate all required information and supporting documentation for the application (Please refer to the item of plant registration page for further information on item of plant registration requirements if necessary).
- Download and complete:
- Form 204 Annexure - multiple registrations of an item of plant on a mine site with details of each item of plant in the tab that corresponds with the kind of plant. All fields are mandatory except for Date first commissioned and Date first registered, where only the earliest date is provided.
- Download and complete the Form 204 - multiple registrations of an item of plant on a mine site, making sure to declare the correct number of plant being applied for.
- Once both documents are completed, lodge your application by emailing both documents, along with your proof of company registration to: whsplantdesign@lgirs.wa.gov.au.
- After submitting by email, you will be contacted within several days for payment by credit or debit card.

After your application has been submitted
Your application will be assessed in line with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022. If the assessment process raises further questions, the application contact person will be informed by email.
Applications without substantial errors typically take 2-4 weeks to process.
In accordance with the regulations, an item of plant can be operated on a workplace without a registration for up to 30 days once an application has been submitted and paid, provided:
- It’s the first application submitted to WorkSafe WA for the item of plant; and
- A record of the inspection and assessment from the competent person, as declared in the application, is available for inspection.
This applies until the 30 day timeframe lapses, the item of plant is registered, the application is withdrawn or the regulator proposes to refuse registration, whichever occurs first.
