These updates will detail the specific actions the Government is taking to manage supply chain issues caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Summary of current fuel situation (8 May)

What was achieved this week:

  • $100 Fuel Support Payments to every driver in WA to ease the burden on motorists – an Australian first.
  • You’ll be able to claim the $100 Fuel Support Payment from 1 July through the ServiceWA app.
  • An extra 8 million litres of diesel has been secured for our State’s Strategic Stockpile, bringing the total volume to 20 million litres.
  • The first delivery of stockpile fuel has arrived in the Kimberley, with further volumes available in Kwinana, Esperance, the Mid West and the Goldfields. This will help to respond quickly to acute demand spikes in rural and regional areas.
  • The Fuel Industry Operations Group continues to meet. Fuel companies remain confident of fuel supply into Western Australia and distributors are reporting that their allocations have returned to normal.
  • It is now mandatory for all fuel retail sites to report via FuelWatch when they do not have fuel available for sale - now a total of 986 sites across Western Australia.
  • Fuel stockouts in Western Australia have continued to decline and appear to have returned to levels seen prior to the conflict in the Middle East.
  • By checking FuelWatch motorists can find the cheapest fuel prices, meaning consumers can reward those fuel retailers that are doing the right thing and looking after their customers.

What we are working to address:

  • Looking at additional storage opportunities to expand WA’s strategic Fuel Stockpile to help respond quickly to any future acute demand spikes in regional and rural WA.
  • Continue to plan for potential major fuel supply disruptions and an escalation under the National Fuel Security Plan.
