Stronger Together: WA’s Plan for Gender Equality provides a framework for coordinated action by Government, business, organisations and individuals with practical steps to advance gender equality over the next 10 years.
An extensive consultation process was undertaken for this plan and a wide range of people from all age groups, diverse backgrounds, different abilities and diverse sexual identities across Western Australia provided their thoughts and ideas. The issues raised by Western Australians during these discussions made it clear that things need to change.
Women and girls in Western Australia deserve to live and work safely in a community where diversity is embraced and where access to rights, resources, opportunities and protections is not determined by gender.
Stronger Together sets out how the Government will lead the way to bring about generational change and create a better, fairer and more equitable community in Western Australia.
COVID-19 highlighted the pre-existing gender inequalities in workplaces and in unpaid work, demonstrating the ongoing need for systemic change to ensure more equitable access to rights, resources, opportunities and protections. Stronger Together is being delivered through four Action Plans across 10 years 2020–2030 and will respond to current and emerging priorities in Western Australia. The Second Action Plan is building on advances made by Government in the initial phase of delivery and includes the following five focus areas to guide work over the next four years:
- COVID-19 Women’s Recovery
- Safety and Respect at Work
- Primary Prevention
- Aboriginal Women’s Leadership
- Older Women
The report on the First Action Plan provides updates on 58 actions being delivered across 16 Government sector agencies. Four of those actions have been developed in response to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, 30 actions were commenced and/or completed during 2020–21 and 24 actions are ongoing or long term.
An interim report was released in January 2021 and provides a brief summary of work being undertaken across Government to progress Stronger Together and support women during COVID-19 recovery.
