Time: the whole duration of 16 Days in WA 2026
Event name: GO Orange, End the Silence
Event description: A 16 day campaign against domestic and family violence in the Shire of Goomalling. Starting from November 25th to December 10th, the Shire will host the GO Orange, End the Silence campaign to raise awareness of domestic and family violence and also to encourage community members to speak out against abuse. Throughout the campaign, an orange chair will be placed at participating establishments across the Shire, with one chair featured at a different location each day. Attached to the chair will be a QR code inviting the community to respond to the question:
“The chair is empty because...?”
People can share a story, message, reflection, or experience relating to domestic and family violence, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, psychological abuse, financial abuse, coercive control, or other forms of harmful and controlling behaviour. The QR code will also have the number of the 24-hour line of Department of Communities which handles calls about women with or without children experiencing DV or family violence. Another activity locals can do is they can take a photo with the chair and share it together with a message about domestic or family violence and posts can be tagged with #OrangeChairShireofGoomalling because the Shire of Goomalling believes that every empty chair represents a voice that deserves to be heard.
