Overview
The ACCO Commissioning Framework (The Framework) is being developed in consultation with the ACCO sector and key stakeholders to:
- improve outcomes for Aboriginal children, families, and communities;
- guide the way Communities will engage with the ACCO sector;
- increase the number of ACCOs commissioned;
- support sustainable economic and socio-economic development opportunities for ACCOs across Western Australia; and
- provide locally informed, place based and culturally appropriate service design solutions.
The Framework will enable Communities to meet its obligations under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap (the National Agreement) particularly in relation to Priority Reform Two: Building the Community Controlled Sector.
It will also enhance the WA Government’s ability to meet key targets in the National Agreement in line with WA’s Closing the Gap Jurisdictional Implementation Plan and will also align with Communities’ ACCO Strategy 2022 to 2032, A Call to Action 2022-2024 – Implementation Plan One.
Scope
The Framework will apply to the commissioning of ACCOs (as defined by the National Agreement) who deliver community services procured under the Delivering Community Services in Partnership Policy.
It will also apply to the commissioning of Aboriginal organisations that do not meet the ACCO definition.
Next steps
In 2024, Communities engaged with the ACCO sector through a series of consultation workshops. Key themes emerging from these workshops were shared with stakeholders.
In 2025, Communities is finalising the ACCO Commissioning Framework, in consultation with community-controlled peaks.
Further communications are anticipated in late 2025.
