National Principles for Child Safe Organisations – calendar of micro-events: WA Children’s Week

For WA Children’s Week 2025, held between 18 – 26 October, organisations where children and young people are involved, are encouraged to host a micro-event focused on the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (National Principles).
Last updated:

Micro-events provide opportunities for sustainable and ongoing ways to have conversations about the National Principles. This ongoing investment of time, without additional cost, allows organisations to commence important conversations on prioritising children’s safety.

What is a micro-event

Micro-events are small gatherings tailored for a specific audience or subject matter. This style of event brings people together to connect and have a shared focus. Types of events can include:

  • Morning tea
  • Short presentations
  • Stand-up meetings
  • A local walk
  • Utilising a regularly scheduled meeting
  • Webinar
  • Networking for small groups

Micro-events can occur anywhere where people can connect with each other, creating greater localised connection or focussed discussion on a specific theme.  Events create an environment where knowledge sharing and communication between guests is a lot easier and more spontaneous.

What are the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations?

The National Principles are a set of 10 standards aimed to provide a nationally consistent approach to creating organisational cultures that foster child safety and wellbeing.

A key component of the National Principles is the engagement of children, young people and their families in an organisation’s policies and practices.  The National Principles aim to inspire preventative and positive action to reduce the risk of child abuse and harm to children and young people in organisations.

Child safety and wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility - children and young people should feel safe, protected and valued by the organisations they interact with.

What can I do?

If you are planning to host a micro-event on the National Principles, register the event on the calendar of events. You can then access the downloadable resources developed by the Department of Communities, including posters, a short PowerPoint presentation and promotional text, to support your event. Register to request copies of either the National Principles Postcard or the Children and Young People Feedback Postcard by post.
