The Chief Scientist established the Government Lead Scientist and Researcher Network (the Network) in 2026 as a forum for collaboration, knowledge exchange and coordination across key WA government agencies engaged in science and research. 

The objectives of the Network are to:

  • Build strong connections between WA government scientists and lead researchers to share expertise, best practice and research outcomes.
  • Identify and support opportunities for collaboration, cross agency research, and capability building, and discuss emerging science trends aligned with government priorities. agency research, and capability building,
  • Engage with external partners such as universities, industry and research institutes, and provide advice to the Chief Scientist of WA on opportunities for science and technology in the State. 
  • Promote the achievements of WA government scientists, advance IP protection and commercialisation capabilities, and investigate important science and technology issues for WA.

The Network is chaired by the WA Chief Scientist, Professor Sharath Sriram and includes members representing 10 WA Government agencies. The Network meets 3 times a year.
