About the Role

The Chief Scientist provides advice to the Minister for Science and Innovation and WA Government on: 

  • science, innovation and technology in WA. 
  • attracting talent, investment and developing the State’s science and technology capabilities. 
  • promoting WA as a science, innovation and technology leader nationally and internationally. 
  • promoting science, innovation and technology across government, community and business. 
  • inspiring young people and supporting diversity and inclusion in science, innovation and technology fields. 

The Chief Scientist supports the State's strategic priorities across the science, technology and innovation sectors.

Appointed in June 2025, Professor Sharath Sriram is the current Chief Scientist of Western Australia.
