The Chief Scientist provides advice to the Minister for Science and Innovation and WA Government on:
- science and technology in WA.
- attracting talent, investment and developing the State’s science and technology capabilities.
- promoting WA as a science and technology leader nationally and internationally.
- promoting science and technology across government, community and business.
- inspiring young people and supporting diversity and inclusion in science and technology fields.
The Chief Scientist supports the State's strategic priorities across the science, technology and innovation sectors.
Appointed in June 2025, Professor Sharath Sriram is the current Chief Scientist of Western Australia.
