The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation supports and develops science and innovation efforts in Western Australia.

The department's work in this area includes the following:

  • Supporting the Minister for Innovation and ICT; Science, the Hon Dave Kelly MLA.
  • Supporting the Chief Scientist of Western Australia, Professor Peter Klinken AC FTSE.
  • Facilitating linkages across government agencies and between industry, research and academic organisations at local, national and international levels.
  • Leveraging co-investment from the private sector, federal, state and local governments, universities and other funding bodies - including WA's Cyber Security, Data Science and Life Sciences Innovation Hubs.
  • Supporting the growth of the space sector to create jobs, diversify the economy, drive innovation and inspire a passion for STEM.
  • Delivering the Western Australian Government's STEM Strategy including the Professional Learning and Mentoring program, Digital and Technology Skills Program and the Take 2 STEM campaign.
  • Providing a long-term setting for the research and development programs across WA.
  • Supporting the coordination of research and development across government to enable efficiencies of scale and scope to be identified. 
  • Supporting and facilitating initiatives that diversify our economy and create new jobs and industries.
  • Attracting investment in innovation.
  • Supporting the capability and economic sustainability of regional economies.
