Expressions of Interest - University Representatives now closed

The call for Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced academics and researchers seeking to represent their university or research institution on the Advisory Board closed on 18 February 2022.
Last updated:

In 2017, the Government committed to establishing a "Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research to provide independent evidence-based research on crime and justice."

The Western Australian Office of Crime Statistics and Research (WACSAR) has since been created as a separate office within the Department of Justice.

A high-level non-statutory board has been established to provide advice and recommendations to the WACSAR Director. Its role is to:

  • Make recommendations regarding WACSAR’s strategic research and evaluation priorities;
  • Provide advice and contribute to the development and implementation of best practice research and evaluation strategies and methodologies;
  • Monitor academic collaborations and partnerships;
  • Promote excellence and innovation in research and evaluation; and,
  • Foster discourse and deliberation on academic matters and issues within the criminal justice sector.

The Advisory Board has an Executive Committee, made up of ex-officio members including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC), and the Director General of the Department of Justice as Chair.

The full Advisory Board includes three representatives from the Western Australian university sector.

The first call for expressions of interest for university representation on the Advisory Board closed on Friday 18 February.

Offers will be made in early March 2022.
