Meet Aishwarya, a passionate Youth Justice Officer who discovered her calling while finishing her Bachelor of Criminology and Justice.

For the past three years, Aishwarya been dedicated to helping young people and their families.

"I fell in love with this role because of the impact we have on young people and their families. From that moment on, I knew this was my career path."

When a young person first enters the justice system, Aishwarya is there. She conducts interviews with the young person and their family to understand what led to their situation.

The focus of a Youth Justice Officer is always on case managing clients in the community and custody to divert them from youth detention.

"It’s an incredibly rewarding job. We work to address the needs of young people and their families, which empowers them to turn their lives around.

“This not only reduces reoffending but also makes our communities safer."

Aishwarya knows that real change is a team effort. She collaborates with various partners like Child Protection and the Department of Education to ensure her clients get the support they need.

She connects them with resources, from mentoring and psychological support to substance abuse counselling.

For Aishwarya, the goal is to help young people make better choices and avoid the justice system altogether.
