WA Tomorrow Population Report No. 12

WA Tomorrow Population Report No. 12 is the latest set of medium-term population forecasts, by age and sex, for Western Australia to 2036. The forecasts represent the best estimate of the future population size if trends in fertility, mortality and migration continue. These forecasts supersede WA Tomorrow Population Report No.11 state population forecast published in 2018-19.

The WA Tomorrow population forecasts are used across State Government agencies for budgeting targets and for planning future service and infrastructure requirements where population change and the age and/or sex distribution needs to be considered.

WA Tomorrow includes a forecast range (Bands A to E), indicating five probable futures. Bands A and B contain the lower forecasts, Band C is the median forecast and Bands D and E represent the higher forecasts. For the user who requires the best estimate of future population size, Band C should be used.

WA Tomorrow No. 12 will be released in two stages:

  1. Stage 1: WA Tomorrow Medium-Term State Population Forecasts by age and sex for 2022 to 2036.
  2. Stage2:  WA Tomorrow Medium-Term Sub-State Population Forecasts by age and sex for 2022 to 2036 (Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) and Local Government Area (LGA)). This is anticipated to be released by mid-2024.
