Data and information sharing

Government held data is a strategic asset and the WA Government is committed to using and sharing it responsibly for public benefit.
Last updated:

Data is one of the Western Australian Government’s most valuable strategic assets. When used and shared responsibly, it supports better decisions, more effective services and improved outcomes for the community.

The Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA) (PRIS Act) provides a contemporary framework that enables information sharing while protecting privacy and maintaining public trust. The legislative framework provides clear authority to share information for public benefit, supported by guidance, safeguards and whole of government leadership. It enables a consistent approach to sharing data and information across portfolios and boundaries.

Data and information sharing is a priority for the WA Government. It supports a more connected, informed and responsive government that delivers greater value to the people of Western Australia.

Data and information sharing in Western Australia is also enabled under a variety of other laws.
