The Yarrie Greater Bilby habitat management project was approved for funding by the Minister for Environment in February 2026, with on-ground works starting in June.

Yarrie Pastoral Station will receive $2,356,789.00, excluding GST, over five years to undertake the project.

The focus is Greater Bilby (Macrotis lagotis) habitat improvement, starting with bilby surveys to develop a baseline and inform management actions. These activities are likely to involve enhanced feral cat and fire management.

Bat surveys will be carried out as a secondary element of the project, with the outcome of informing potential bat habitat management projects.

Further updates will be provided as the project develops.
