Making a complaint is an important decision, so please take the time to make sure you understand what complaints can be handled by the Local Government Inspector.

Please ensure you read the Breach Complaint and General Complaint Guidelines before proceeding.

Before you start

Before you start completing a complaint form, it is important you consider some key information:

  • Is there another Western Australian agency better suited to report this matter to?
  • Are you aware there are penalties for providing false or misleading information to the Inspectorate?
  • Are you aware of your confidentiality requirements?

To help review your complaint efficiently, clearly state which local government and person your allegation concerns. Please also have any supporting documents ready to upload.

Please provide clear, specific, and relevant details on the form so your complaint can be assessed effectively. State your allegations briefly, then add any supporting information or context.

Things to remember before you start the lodgement process:

  • Use the correct form provided in this section.
  • Be clear on the person the complaint is against and which local government it relates to, plus the nature of your allegation(s).
  • Have any relevant documents ready to upload to support your complaint.
  • Be aware that there are penalties for providing false or misleading information to the Inspectorate.
  • Understand the confidentiality requirements that apply when lodging a complaint.
  • Receipt of your complaint will be acknowledged within 14 days from the day after you lodge it.
